My Hopes for Game of Gold 2
Last year GG Poker hosted one of the best poker shows of the decade, Game of Gold, where 16 pro players battled it out for $456,000. Maria Ho emerged victorious over Dan “Jungleman” Cates for the win, and a second season was teased. This is what I hope to see in the next season
Diversity of Games: While No Limit Texas Hold’em is the most popular poker variant, I feel like this is an opportunity for GG Poker to give people a taste of different games that aren’t usually televised. While they did one round of Indian poker in season 1, I feel like they could have games like Omaha or Short Deck in as well.
Better Structure: My biggest problem in how season 1 worked was the fact that there were too few episodes, especially for the late game rounds. After episode 10, with only 2 episodes left, there were still 9 players remaining. I feel if there was an additional round at the final 6, to narrow the pool down to 4 for the finale, we would have got to see a lot more late-game action.
Players: The cast of Game of Gold was very good and hard to top, but if I was casting for a second season, with no returning players, this is who I would pick.
Phil Helmuth
Brad Owen
Jennifer Tilly
Arden Cho
Phil Ivey
Jean Robert Bellande
Vanessa Selbst
Patrik Antonius
Chris Moneymaker
Mike Matusow
Cary Katz
Annete Obrestad
Tony G
Vanessa Russo
Erik Seidel
Mariano
This would be my perfect list, but even if a few of these people show up in season 2, I’ll be satisfied. Honestly, I’m excited for season 2 even if none of these players make it.
